Hello from Maria and Daryn! Welcome to the Civil Resistance 2: The Movement and the Message course, part two of our three-part series on civil resistance. We will be your instructors for this course, and we're very glad you're here.
In this course, we will dive deeper into how important strategic messaging and communication are to a nonviolent movement. We will build on the core foundations of civil resistance that we covered in our first civil resistance course . Shaping a narrative is key for a successful nonviolent movement, and communication through media, social media, and more traditional messaging all play a fundamental role. We will explore successful methods of maximizing reach through communication strategies, as well as address how to shape a movement's key message.
We developed this course for activists, civil society leaders, scholars, regional experts, policymakers from governments and international organizations, journalists, religious figures, educators/trainers, and those with a keen interest in how ordinary people are transforming conflicts through nonviolent action. We will hear stories and learn from a variety of practitioners and activists who will challenge us to think critically about conflict. We also look forward to hearing from you and your perspectives through discussion forums and activities!
Thanks for joining this course. I hope the stories, reflections, and lessons offered in this course will help better prepare you for future engagements. If you have questions or need assistance at any point, please do reach out to our Global Campus directly at globalcampus@usip.org .
Let's get started!
